In Live for Me, Nkem, physician and writer Dr. Nneka Oluoha masterfully weaves together marital love, family pressures, cultural expectations, and mental illness to create a rich and moving portrait of the immigrant experience. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and highly recommend it.

Sandeep Jauhar New York Times bestselling author of My Father's Brain and Heart: A History; practicing cardiologist & contributing opinion writer, The New York Times

A quietly devastating and deeply intimate portrayal of the burdens women carry across cultural lines. Nneka Oluoha masterfully navigates the complexities of mental health, family, and identity in this unflinching debut.

Surbhi Bansal Author of Do Not Follow

As someone who spent years trying to look perfectly fine on the outside while quietly falling apart on the inside, Live for Me, Nkem hit me hard. Nzenwa captures the exhausting performance of seeming okay when you're drowning beneath the surface - the smiles, the silence, the fear of burdening the people you love. With remarkable honesty and compassion, she shines a light on depression, cultural expectations, and the dangerous loneliness that comes from believing you have to carry everything alone. This is a powerful reminder that suffering in silence isn't strength, and that asking for help may be the bravest act of all.

"How amazing and terrifying to be seen without performing"

Cyn Posner Author of It’s Messy in Here

A powerful exploration of the consequences of mental health issues being silenced due to cultural expectations and trauma comparison, and the subsequent profound price paid by an entire family.

Paria Hassouri Award-winning author of Harvesting Rosewater and Found in Transition

Nneka Oluoha
Author: Nneka Oluoha
Nigeria
Nneka Oluoha is a Nigerian American writer and physician. Her passion for fiction began in childhood, shaped by evenings spent listening to folklore under the moonlight. She spent her early days crafting stories, first with random objects around her home, then on paper in between house chores. Then she progressed to university newspapers in Nigeria and screenplays for school dramas.
She completed medical school in Nigeria, then immigrated to the United States, where she completed an internal medicine residency and works as a hospitalist. Her storytelling is deeply influenced by her Igbo heritage and her lifelong fascination with family dynamics, secrets, and silent battles fought behind closed doors.
She writes with emotional clarity, cultural depth, and an unflinching honesty about human relationships.
